Welcome to Örbyhus Castle!
Örbyhus Castle is located in northern Uppland, 50 km north of Uppsala, in an area that has been the scene of Swedish history on several occasions.
The castle was the focus of national history in 1577 when the deposed king Erik XIV, eldest son of Gustav Vasa, died here. Was he poisoned?
Visit Us
During the spring and summer season, we offer guided tours of King Erik XIV:s prison, the castle park and the carriage museum.
Summer concerts are held in the beautiful Orangery, located in the castle park.
You can also walk around the castle park and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and buildings. Here you can see, among other things, the magnificent oak that Gustav Vasa is said to have planted in the middle of the 16th century. Take the opportunity to eat a picnic on the lawns by Lake Vendelsjön.
The castle park is open all year round.

The Orangery
The Orangery was built in the 1820s, designed by architect C. C. Gjörwell. Plants that could not normally tolerate the Swedish winter climate were kept and cultivated in the Orangery. The Orangery also grew exotic fruits, including oranges, and it is for this reason that the building takes its name.
Today the building is used as a venue for summer concerts, events and exhibitions.
Örbyhus Castle Garden
Örbyhus Castle Garden -“Örbyhus slottsträdgård” - is the castle’s former kitchen garden and offers sales of beautiful flowers and decor.
